Date Archive

What it's for: Displaying posts from a specific time period - showing all content published in a particular year, month, or day

When it's used: When someone clicks on a date link, visits a date-based URL (like /2024/01/ or /2024/), or lands on chronological archive pages through date navigation

What you can design: Date-specific archive layouts - chronological headers showing the time period, post listings from that specific date range, and timeline navigation elements

Appears when: Any WordPress date archive page is visited (yearly, monthly, or daily archives)

Examples of when this template appears:

  • Someone clicks on "January 2024" from your archive widget and sees all posts from that month.
  • That's your Date Archive template.
  • Or when someone visits /2023/ and views all posts published in 2023 - they see your Date Archive template.

What dynamic data is available:

You have access to the specific date period's data and all posts within it

  • date period (year, month, day)
  • posts published in this time period
  • pagination information
  • post count for this period
  • date navigation (previous/next periods)
  • archive date formatting
Pro feature

You can also query posts by additional date criteria, create conditional layouts based on the date period type (yearly vs monthly), and add advanced date-based filtering. Learn more about using dynamic data →

What you control:

Everything on date archive pages - date headers, chronological post listings, calendar navigation, pagination styles, sidebar content. You design the complete experience for people browsing your content by publication date.

Doesn't affect:

  • Individual posts or pages - those use Single Post, Single Page, or Single CPT templates
  • Other archive types - category, tag, or author pages need their specific templates
  • Homepage or blog index - those need Front Page or Blog Index templates

Template Priority: 70

This template has default priority 70 in Builderius template hierarchy. It will override general templates like All Archives (70) when specifically targeting date archives, but gives way to more specific date conditions you might create.

Note: When you design a page or post directly (without using templates), that design always wins regardless of priority numbers. Learn more about designing pages directly →
